Two years ago, we presented the German and international marketplace landscape in a landscape poster with our study “THE MARKETPLACE WORLD 2020” and thus pointed out the growing importance of marketplaces. Only a few months later, the Corona pandemic forced dealers and brand manufacturers to deal intensively with the topic.
The marketplace world has become even more complex between now and then, competition continues to intensify massively. Those who want to participate in the marketplace boom must position themselves professionally. In our joint study with gominga, “THE MARKETPLACE WORLD 2022”, we reveal which service providers and tools can support the process and in which sectors there is already a lot of competition.
More than 100 new marketplaces since 2020
Our Marketplace Landscape DACH 2022 count 214 marketplaces for the consumer sector (excluding B2B). This means that marketplace participants have increased by 40% compared to 2020. Compared to 2015, the number of online marketplaces has almost tripled.
The huge competition is making it increasingly difficult for new participants to compete. The category heatmap in our study shows the distribution of specialist marketplaces, multi-category providers and everythingstores per industry and thus provides information about the competitive situations.
